Dressing for your body shape - Accessories

This week Gemma Mc Lean from www.fashionvent.wordpress.com shows us what accessories we should be wearing to accentuate our best features.

They are the ultimate pieces for finishing off an outfit for a truly unique style. How you accessorize says a lot about your personality, and your personal style. They are a great expression of style, but most of all, they can make or break an outfit. Knowing what accessories best suit each outfit, and of course, each body type is crucial.

As I’ve mentioned before in my articles, if there are parts of your body you are conscious of or want to hide, you need to draw the eye away from them, and on to one of your better features,  i.e. If you don’t like your bottom half, emphasise your bust, or your amazing collar bones, And vice versa. Here are a few tips on what accessories you should be focusing on.

For boyish figures:

I have said it a million times, and I’ll say it again. Stick on a belt, and create yourself a waist. It is the simplest way of adding definition and curves to your frame. A thicker belt will emphasise it even more, so chose a belt that measures 2 inches or thicker.

For Curvy figures:

A skinny belt will perfectly highlight your hourglass shape, without defining it too much. A thicker belt could just make your waist look thick, so stick with skinny.

For top heavy figures:

If you are looking to draw the eye away from your top half, then accessorise on the bottom. Do you have great legs? Try a pair of patterned tights! Or try a statement shoe. And remember to keep the top half minimal. A loose scarf could also cover up your top half nicely if you want to accessorise the top half.

For bottom heavy figures:

You will want to keep all eyes on your top half, so this season’s statement necklace is the perfect solution for you. There are so many styles to choose from so you should never be stuck for choice. You can even use these to add a pop of colour to a colourless outfit, or a touch of glam to what could be a very ordinary outfit.

Now that you know which accessories are right for you, it will also eliminate the chances over over-accessorising.  So grab yourself some bling, and make those outfits work for you.
