New from director and writer Aaron Sorkin, this was one of the best series of 2012. Starring Jeff Daniels of Dumb and Dumber fame and a whole host of impressive actors including one to watch Olivia Munn (google her)

 

Sportsnight

Another Sorkin creation, this show only ran for two seasons but won multiple Emmy Awards. Quite similar to Newsroom but for fans of sport it's a great watch.

The West Wing

The third Sorkin show on this list proves how good he is. Starring Charlie Sheen's dad as the President and focus' on his daily struggles as he tries to  cope with the pressures of the job.

Friday Night Lights

Some are put off by the fact that it's about American Football but Friday Night Lights is one of the best TV shows of the past decade, if not ever. Just watch this Emmy highlight reel and you'll know why...

 

The Shield

Cult series based on some corrupt policemen doing some bad things stopping at nothing to catch the bad guys, won multiple Golden Globes and Emmys but still hasn't received the credit over here that it deserves.

 

Dexter

A stand out show in its 8th and final season. The premise is intriguing, a forensic analyst for the Miami police department by day, serial killer by night.

 

Teachers

Starring the guy from The Walking Dead as a dead beat teacher hanging around with his mates, drinking and attempting to pass on knowledge, also stars a very young James Corden.

Freeks And Geeks

Cancelled before it even had a chance and only 12 episodes into its first season. Starred James Franco, Jason Segel, Seth Rogan, a whole host of other stars and produced by Judd Apatow, it's where the whole 2000's comedy scene and it's actors made their names.
