Brace Yourselves: A Bird Box Sequel Is On It's Way

After the huge success of the Netflix movie, the writer of the 2014 Bird Box novel, Josh Malerman, has told Esquire that he will be releasing the sequel this year that takes place eight years after the first book ended.

Inspired by watching Sandra Bullock on the Netflix Screen, Malerman decided he wanted to find out what happened next after Malorie, Boy and Girl, made it to their post-apocalyptic safe-haven.

While watching the film with his daughter, he turned to her saying;

"I want to know what happens next!", Which she replied, "Well, you know, you could make that happen,", and thank god for that child because now we're getting a second book and hopefully a sequel to the film!

The last film ended after Malorie (Sandra), Boy and Girl made it to the blind school where they were safe after trekking across dangerous conditions, and losing their beloved Tom, Malorie's partner and the step-in-father of the children.

The second novel will follow the life of Malorie, as we find out more about her and more about the creatures who have taken over the outside world, driving people to become suicidal or brutal murderers. It will begin eight years after the end of the first novel/movie, which will make Boy and Girl young teenagers, but Malerman has said this story won't follow Boy and Girl so much, but will focus on Malorie and her life in this drastically different world.

"I’ve been asked a ton of times: people want to know what happened with Boy and Girl. But as much as I care about Boy and Girl, this isn’t their story. "

The writer, Josh Malerman, will release the sequel on the 1st of October later this year, but for now, he is still enjoying the success of the first film.

Bird Box is available to stream on Netflix.
