The Real Story Behind Joey's Shoulder Injury On Friends

Remember when Joey has his arm in a sling for a few episodes of Friends? And they said it was because he injured him jumping on the bed? Yea, well it turns that's not actually what happened ... obviously.

The truth is nearly as funny as the storyline however, although I doubt Matt LeBlanc found it funny at the time. LeBlanc actually dislocated his shoulder while filming a 'stunt' in an earlier Friends epsiode - 'The One Where No One's Ready.' We all remember it for his brilliant 'Could I be wearing any more clothes?' line but what you might have forgotten was that the reason Chandler and Joey were fighting was over who got to sit in the big chair in Monica's apartment.

While speaking to Jimmy Kimmel last night, LeBlanc explained what happened:

He comes in the door and we both look at the chair. Neither one of us is sitting in it so we both race towards the chair, and I have to just step over the coffee table and land in this big, huge comfortable chair. I don't even think it qualifies as a 'stunt.'

And somehow I land completely upside down, and I was going to land on my head, between the table and the chair, so I put my arm out to break my fall and just exploded my shoulder. So I get up and everybody thought is part of the show so everyone's laughing and I'm like [sarcastic] 'Yea that's pretty funny, hahaha ...' just in total pain.

He then ended up running into someone from the cast of ER in Monica's bedroom, which must have been a very confusing situation for a man in need of urgent medical attention. You can listen to the whole story below.
