The Powerpuff Girls Is Getting A Live-Action Reboot

A live-action version of The Powerpuff Girls is in the works.

The reboot of the classic Cartoon Network series is currently in development at the CW. In this version, the girls are all grown up and resent the fact that their childhoods were lost to fighting crime.

The girls are used to being America's pint-sized heroes but will the trio reunite when the world needs them more than ever?

The original “Powerpuff Girls” was created by Craig McCracken. In that series, Professor Utonium accidentally created the elementary school aged super team of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup by combining sugar, spice, and everything nice with the mysterious Chemical X.

Using their superpowers, the three young girls protect the town of Townsville from evil villains such as Mojo Jojo.

This news comes as a pleasant surprise for fans of the cartoon series about crime-fighting little girls.

The show ran for six seasons and 78 episodes between 1998 and 2005. “The Powerpuff Girls Movie” was released in 2002, while a rebooted animated series began airing on Cartoon Network in 2016. The reboot's third season wrapped up last summer.

According to Variety, The CW are taking over the new series, alongside Berlanti Productions, while Warner Bros. Television will produce.

Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier are writing the script, and also acting as producers. Cody is best known for writing “Juno,” for which she won the Academy Award for best original screenplay in 2008. Regnier's past credits include the “Veronica Mars” revival, “iZombie,” and “Falling Skies.”

It'll be interesting to see how this live-action series turns out!
