14 Things People With Social Anxiety Will Understand

Unfortunately, a lot of young people now have some form of anxiety or social anxiety. We get embarrassed and flustered by things that wouldn't even phase average people and feel like every eye in the world is on us. Here are some things all of us socially anxious people will understand:

1) Being Put On The Spot

This is it. The teacher is calling the Register and it's coming up to your name. Clear your throat, but don't make it obvious, you don't want croaky frog voice. Do I say 'Yes' or 'Here', oh god which do I say?!

2) Second Guessing Yourself

You could have come up with the the Theory of Gravity but you will never believe in yourself. Was that right? No that's stupid. I hate me.

3) Food Choices

You're standing in the queue and you have your order prepared for when you they ask you, "A toasted cheese sandwich, please". But wait, they tell you that the oven is broken today. You flush red. What are you going to do now? The cashier is just staring at you and the people are getting impatient behind you. So you stutter out a different order and thrust your money towards them. That. Was. Horrible. (And so is my sandwich.)

4) Till Panic

There's a big queue behind you and the cashier hands you your change and your receipt in the same pile and calls 'next' so you franticly shove everything into your purse and scurry away cringing.

5) Hibernating

You're known as the crab by your friends because it seems like you just want to stay inside all the time but for you, all the possible embarrassing things that could happen in the real world are endless and terrifying.

6) Everything To Do With Public Transport

You've counted your change over and over to make sure it's right. You have your throat cleared so the driver can hear you. Whew! Now that's over, it's time to find a seat and it feels like every single person on the bus is starting at you. You sit down. But now to get off and when you stand people are going to watch you again. The sweat is building on the back of your neck. All the possibilities are going through your head, "What if I trip? What if I fall?". But you made it off the bus and you're going to do it all over again on the way home. Noooo!

7) Parties Kill Your Soul

The best party of the year has just turned into the worst because you've just lost your friend and some good looking person is trying to chat to you. But nothing is coming out of your mouth because all your brain is coming up with is "say something you idiot". Thanks brain, thanks a lot.

 8) Flashbacks

Sitting comfortably, relaxing and BAM! Your brain decides to show you something embarrassing you did 5 years ago, making you cringe and wanting to crawl into a hole immediately.

9) You Are Incredibly Indecisive

You can never decide on anything because what if it's a wrong decision? WELL?

10) People Failing To Help

"You really shouldn't worry as much." Wow! Thank you so much. You have just cured me. NOT.

11) S-s-s-tutters and Word Vomit

W-w-w-w-ith your brain going a mile a minute it can be difficult to concentrate o-o-o-n the words coming out of your m-m-outh.

12) You're Always tired

You will feel mentally drained after leaving the comforts of your house if even for an hour.

13) Breathing Becomes Difficult At Times

When panicked we can forget to breathe. Deep breaths can help you calm down and stop the dizziness and 'fight or flight' feeling. INHALE.
