3 Reasons Why This Generation Loves Themselves

I don’t think it’s a secret that our generation have become obsessed with ourselves. A real journalist might quote you statistics saying young pregnancies from late teens to early twenties are at an all time high but really, it seems to me that today’s Adams and Eve’ s would much rather make sweet love to themselves as opposed to anyone else. Here’s why;

Selfies

There is no greater example of the vanity we have today than in the form of a ‘selfie.’ Whether your posing into a mirror with your iphone on full display or just creating your own hollywood movie closeup on your laptop camera, the ‘selfie’ is the greatest display of vanity we have produced. Selfies have become a mainstay of this era and so apps such as Snapchat have become overnight successes as we’ve decided we would rather send 10 second pictures of our beautiful selves to our friends as opposed to talk to them in person or on the phone like we used to. We truly are an ego-driven bunch of eejits.

Social Networking

Nothing has given rise to our own self-obsession more than social networks. It has given us the forum to take ‘selfie’ photos and show our truly superficial side. Social networking has offered us personal webpages dedicated to ourselves for christ sake! Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, we get to offer our personal opinions on topics as if we’re geniuses, tell people how our day has gone as if it’s the most important in the world and take pictures of our dinner and people pretend to care ! No wonder we’re all so arrogant. Already, I’m thinking of writing a status about this. I’ll probably get a bucketload of likes.

Jersey/Geordie Shore

This one may surprise you but think about it for a second. Without Geordie Shore, how many self-respecting lads do you know that would wax their eyebrows, shave their legs and hit the sunbeds like their life depended on it. Would there be an increasing amount of ridiculously tanned, hair waxed into a combover, bodybuilding fucking tools in your local gym without these two programs. Equally, you ladies have been influenced to be more in love with yourselves by this brainchild of MTV. Whether it’s by putting yourselves on a high-horse by condemning the lewd behaviour of the girls and saying you could never be like them or by copying their own self-obsession by proclaiming you ‘only shag bodybuilders’, it is quite clear that MTV has helped create a generation who would love nothing more than to marry a carbon copy of themselves.
