5 Things We Shouldn't Have Been Told As Kids
Looking back and reminiscing, I suppose all of these factors are just things I would have wanted more control on the path to fulfilling my destiny.....not that I was raised badly or anything, just because, let's face it, I'm awesome...control over these would've just made me more awesome or as I like to say (because I control what I say)....AWESOMER.....here are 5 things we shouldn't have been told as kids.
1. What we were meant to find funny
Fart's are funny, my nephew of 4 gets told off when he farts and I feel guilty while laughing at him...when really I should be laughing with him, he also gets told off for saying fart,... Let the kids have their fun...and let them fart god dammit.
2. Interlocking indecipherable joined together letters (AKA handwriting)
A serious of loops and lines that you spent half your childhood learning when they could've showed us how to do understand something useful like hieroglyphics or just how to write normally. At the best of times people just form their own set of squiggles that only they can read? Really like? WHY? What's the point...other than for when I'm signing autographs in the future and at that rate I'll be going so fast you'll be lucky if you get an 'X'.
3. Certain languages
OK this isn't a what we shouldn't have been told but a one that shouldn't have been forced on us. Irish for starters...look I'm all for keeping the culture and know there are people out there who adamant that it should stay where it is in our education system, but how many of us actually use it in later life? And does it further many of us on a professional level? German, Spanish or Chinese..now there are some languages I could use while brokering a deal to improve myself on a professional level. I'm not saying get rid of the Irish language, it just would've been nice if I had a choice....each to their own I guess.
4. You could grow up to be anything you want....
Can I be a mountain? A cloud? A princess? Now I'm not arguing against the fact that professionally or in education one can do anything you want as long as you have desire (and the right funding), but if you tell a 5 year old Ian Smith that he can be anything he wants to be, then he's going to tell you he wants to be Fireman Sam or Bosco, or tell Ian's sister Michelle she can be anything and she'll say "a princess mammy"...How about telling them the truth? "No you can't be Peter Pan/Rapunzal/Batman but if you work hard enough you can make a great living"....
5. Don’t talk to strangers
This to a child means do not talk to anyone outside their immediate recognisable circle. I was a chatterbox and ignored it, hence why I have many friends. Most of the cartoons we watched had people talking to strangers on a daily basis. Send them off to school like that and they won't talk to anyone..yes obviously don't talk to scary looking men trying to lure you into a big white van with sweets etc but strangers? Every new person we met was a stranger...should we not have spoken to any of them?! Thats how imaginary friends are born....
