The Best And Worst Counties To Find A Job In Ireland Have Been Revealed

Ireland has slowly worked its way out of the recession but with high renting costs and lack of employment opportunities in specific areas, many are left wondering what counties have the highest and lowest job vacancies.

IrishJobs.ie commissioned a report with economists from Dublin City University and Maynooth to distinguish the areas of growth and decline in the employment sector. The report uncovered the counties in which a person is most likely to find work. The top five counties with the highest vacancy rates are:

  • Limerick
  • Leitrim
  • Dublin
  • Sligo
  • Galway

and the top five counties with the lowest job vacancies are:

  • Cavan
  • Kerry
  • Wexford
  • Donegal
  • Offaly

Both Leitrim and Limerick had the biggest increase in job vacancies. Compared to the previous quarter, Leitrim has the highest jump at 67% in the number of available job vacancies and Limerick has an increase of 43% on the same period from last year. Job vacancies are down a massive 43% in Cavan, the highest of all the counties recorded by the IrishJobs Job Index.

According to the report, the Midlands and the South-East are threatened by lack of investment in infrastructure and as a result, these areas have the highest unemployment rates in the country.

The biggest increases in job sectors can be found in environmental, health and safety (up 60%), hotels and catering (up 26%); security, trades and general services (up 37%); and accountancy and finance (up 10%).
