Everyday Things Irish Students Should Stop Doing

Irish people are certainly a niche in this 7+ billion population we live in. There are some things we do that others don't understand. And, there are some things that us irish students need to stop doing on a regular basis. From talking to your ex to being permanently attached to your phone, it needs to be discussed what we are doing wrong. After much reflection, and discussing the errors in my ways, I have compiled a list of Everyday Things Irish Students Should Stop Doing.
1) Procrastination
This is a tough call for us students when we just want to do absolutely nothing with our day than start that essay we have been fearing. Even if guilt overcomes us, the reality is we really couldn't be bothered. We should stop this now and actually get things done. Think of all you could accomplish.
2) Being Attached To Your Phone
I'm guilty of it and I'm sure many of you are too. There is a rare moment during the day when my phone isn't directly beside me or in my hand. And, I genuinely don't know what I would do without it. But there comes a moment in time when you are out with a friend or over at someones house and there is a silence for at least 30 mins. You are both so consumed with your phones that you have forgotten that the other person is in the room. This is the time when you should consider putting it on silent.
3) Getting That Meal Deal
I love a good takeaway just like the next person, but having one everyday will raise your cholesterol faster than you can say YOLO. So try and minimum it to once or twice a week. But, if you are one of those people who can eat whatever they want and don't care what the future roles, I hate you and continue as you were.
4) Always Saying "No"
College is a time to experience life and all things academic. So have no fear and say yes sometimes. By saying yes to that extra credit or to that guy or girl that asked you out, you may gain something in the long run.
5) Talking To Your Ex
Remember people, you broke up for a reason and unless this is a two way street put the phone down. You will regret this decision, I guarantee you. Try and remove them from your thoughts and delete all contact with them. You are not majoring in bunny boiling. You don't want to be that psycho ex.
6) People Pleasing
If someone doesn't like you that's their loss. If someone hates you and you don't mind them don't bother making the effort. You can't be friends with everyone and you have enough friends. There is nothing more annoying than a people pleaser so stop this at once.
7) Crazy Dieting
This may give you quicker results but you will put on twice as much weight in the long run. Instead of ruining your insides, eat well on a regular basis and have a good balanced diet. Still have your takeaways at the weekend but don't diet all week and binge at the weekend. Keep yourself healthy.
8) Forgetting An Umbrella
Irish people, particularly Irish students, are notorious for not being prepared for this Irish weather. For a country that rains nearly every day not one of us own a decent umbrella. We either have an umbrella with us that breaks within two seconds or we aren't prepared at all. We must buy a good one that will last longer than one day. Or else get a really big hood.
9) Giving Bad Advice
If you have nothing good to say don't say anything at all. And, if you have no clue or notion on the subject just don't give advice. Simply, say "I'm sorry I don't know what to say" and move on.
10) Lying
With social media being the centre of student's universes at the moment there is really no room for white lies. Lie all you wish but when it is about your location or where you went for dinner yesterday, someone will know and reveal it.
11) Sign Up For Loans & Credit Cards
Just because the bank add has two students loving life in it, does not mean this will be the same for you. Think about it, you have no collateral and your part-time job is hardly going to sustain the interest. S,o just walk away now. You will regret this.
12) Bragging About Your Leaving Cert Results
It has been three years. Does this still really matter? If you boast about those LC results, you will seem arrogant and quite strange. So, don't do it okay?
13) Grammatical Errors
We all have access to a computer or smartphone, so when in doubt look up that sh*t. Don't be the person with spelling mistakes on the intro of their essay, just double check beforehand.
14) Submitting An Assignment Without Stapling It
Whether it is bad or good, staple that thing. The good presentation may slightly distract them from the awful essay I did.
15) Doing Nothing In A Group Project
It is time to man up and do your bit. Whether you are a slacker or not, there is nothing more frustrating than someone not pulling their weight. Even if you are doing nothing, at least be there for the meetings so people can help you out.
