Fed Up Of Seeing Your Ex On Facebook? New Feature Lets You Take A Break

If you've ever broken up with anyone, you'll know social media is instrumental in making you feel that much worse. Being bombarded with constant reminders on Facebook about what your ex is doing etc. is the last thing you need after you've dumped someone, or worse still, been dumped.

Now the social media medium is taking steps to improve the user's mood, namely by launching a new feature which will allow users to 'take a break' from their ex.

What happens if you update your relationship status from 'in a relationship' to 'single?'

Well, Facebook will ask whether you would like to 'Take a break' which means you can control when you see your ex, what your ex can see and who can see your past posts. Choose this option and boom! They'll be gone from your News Feed and you won't be prompted to tag them or message them or anything like that. Which sounds a lot like the existing 'Control what you see in your newsfeed option' but how and ever..

Should you choose to limit what your ex sees, they'll be demoted to a Restricted List and will only be able to see posts you tag them in or share publicly. Also, you can restrict your previous posts which means only the people who are tagged in them can see them. These are temporary so you can revert back to your old settings, if you want to.

Interestingly, Facebook made the new move because of research carried out which showed that breakups were made all the more difficult for people when they were reminded of their exes online.

Hopefully, the new feature will help keep digital stalking to a minimum!
