The Pros & Cons Of Dating An Older Guy

Not like your Dad's age or a few months older, but 26 and up really. They're a lot of pros and cons to dating an older guy, they have smouldering grey hairs among they're normal hair, they have so many stories to tell and lessons they've learned, but they can also be really boring and misunderstanding.

Pro - Manners

They're way more likely to open doors, pull out your chair and ask you how your day was, fact. Older guys have gone through the phase of being an absolute lad, and therefore care more about how they treat women. Also, because of the age difference, and trust me it doesn't matter if you're the most independent person in the world, they will take extra care of you.

Con - Arrogance

Obviously, they have spent more time on this earth than we have. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they're smarter than you. Often enough you're opinion is dismissed simply because you're younger and pre assume we're more naive, and that's all it is, and it's really annoying. The subject matter being anything from the best beer to your GOT theories.

Pro - More Experience

This can be a good thing if the guy isn't a know-it-all, it's pretty cool to have this guy tell you about all the craic he's had over the past few years. It kind of makes you think if he could go through that amount of close to death experiences than you'll be just fine.

Con - Energy Levels

You might not think five or six years in the difference would affect his energy levels that much, but it actually does. At times you'll literally feel like your on speed compared to him. This is obviously not his fault but it's still annoying when you want to go out and do something active and they just want to sit in and watch Netflix.

Pro - More Independent

They don't have to answer to anybody, they're their own man. This one of the great things about older guys is that they don't need Mammying, they generally know how to cook and keep themselves clean. These are the little things you might not think are important until you've moved onto a guy your own age who brings his washing home and calls his Mam 9 times a day.

Con - They've Done It Already

This is a really annoying con, it seems like he's been and done everything dating wise, so it's hard to do anything new with this guy. Plus anything that is new, is generally not for his age group, and therefore he can be uninterested.

Pro - They Tend To Be More Financially Secure

They're perfectly aware that you're a student and not on the best salary, so the majority of the time they insist on paying for everything. Personally, I believe in taking turns in buying rounds, or getting the tickets you get the snacks. But if they have a decent job they actually feel better paying for everything.

Con -  Generational Gap

Most of the guys past their mid-20's surprisingly do not know that much about Pitbull, the drink promos in Alchemy and the use of the term 'YOLO'. This always boggles me, how could you not know who Pitbull is? His shit is everywhere. More than likely if he feels that it's a "younger persons thing" he won't concern himself with it, plus he probably has adult stuff to worry about.

Pro - They're More Experienced *wink*

Let's face it, this guy has been around the block a few times. But it's because of this he certainly knows where everything goes and what everything does. There's no doubt that older have the suss when it comes to your puss which will leave you forgetting about the all cons. Also, he can... just... keep... going.

Con - They Can't Party Like You

Don't expect too many late nights with him. We may think that staying up drinking till 7am three nights in a row with work the next morning is completely doable  however this poor old dog needs at least 8 hours kip a night if he wants to be somewhat productive at all the next day.

Pro - No Game Playing

This goes for the majority of older guys that I've dated. Older guys generally have enough shit going on in their lives which makes game playing uninteresting to them. This is a huge relief to womankind as most of the time we feel like we're being emotionally thrown about the place. An older guy will always let you know where you stand.
