Not Quite In The Horrors

All three previous albums from The Horrors have reached the Top 40 in the UK and there's no reason to expect any different from their new release, Luminous, despite the band taking a new direction

The garage rockers have gone all 80's synths and disco dance on us, sounding quite like a mix of Depeche Mode and The Smiths with Gary Numan twiddling away in the background, here's their latest single, 'So Now You Know'

The Horrors biggest influences musically have been garage bands from the 60's-80's such as The Sonics (below), The Birthday Party (Nick Cave's first band) and Bauhaus

While all of their previous albums have been successful, 2009's Primary Colours has been their strongest release up until now and received a Mercury Prize nomination and topped NME's 50 Best Bands of 2009 list, let's have a peek

With Luminous released yesterday, the band are heading on tour to promote the new album, playing the Isle of Wight festival among others, while there are no plans for an Irish date just yet, it would be a surprise if they aren't added to some local festivals over the coming weeks having played at Electric Picnic on more than one occasion in the past

Let's have a listen to another track from Luminous, here's the dreamy first single from the album, 'I See You' which really sums up the change to their sound from previous albums

It's always refreshing to see a band alter their sound and move into new genres, while still retaining the recipe for previous success, Luminous is a solid piece of work from The Horrors and is quite the enjoyable listen as well, a sturdy 3.5/5 stars
