New Student Complex In Dublin Shows Just How Ridiculous Rent Prices Have Become

Anyone in their mid-20s knows the struggle of trying to rent a shoebox for an extortionate amount. Now, it appears, students and families will be forced to carry this burden and pay ridiculous student accommodation prices.

An American real estate giant has been creating student accommodation around Dublin's City Centre are asking students to pay €235 a week.

The US real estate Hines told website Fora.ie that they're looking to make their accommodation "more affordable" and, as Fora points out, their rents are in line with other prices for new student accommodation at present.

Although the rooms start at €235 euro a week, some of the rooms will be priced €250 per week and above. This includes covering bills such as electricity and broadband. The complex also has a range of facilities which residents can use for free, including a small gym and cinema.

The new student accommodation, called ‘Dorset Point’ on Dorset Street, has 447 spaces for students. This building complex is just one of five student complexes being built by the Hines company which is expected -all together - to house over 1,700 students.

Hines' head of student development, Alex Knapp, explained why their rents were so high in his discussion with Fora, which you can read on their wesbite here.
