Why Sarcastic People Are Winning at Life

Sarcastic people often get a bad rep. We are labelled mean, condescending, not understanding and stupid. Frankly that isn't fair, just because you don't understand sarcasm, it doesn't mean we are being mean to you. Sarcastic people have the means to get through this big bad cruel world and do it with a smirk or an eye roll. If anyone is winning, they are.

1. See the world with clarity.

Sarcastic people are generally well informed, you need to feed your humour with knowledge of what is actually happening in the world. They see things as they really are, then slates it with a sarcastic remark. The downside of this is that you can find it very difficult to hide your annoyance at anyone's ignorance. But they probably won't understand any quip you send their way so no harm no foul.

2. Confidence.

You give off an air of 'I don't give a f*ck' and for the most part its true. You honestly don't care how others see you because no matter what anyone thinks or says you can bring them down with one quip. So, yeah, sarcasm may have started out as a defense but you can't turn it off now. Except, of course, one of the main reasons you use sarcasm is to show off how clever and witty you are, and therefore you would like if it went noticed from time to time.

3. Emotions? What emotions?

Emotionally unavailable, or unemotionally awesome? You find the humour in every situation, even the most emotional situations. Humour finds its way into funerals, break ups, someone genuinely hurting your or your friends' feelings. You wouldn't want to cry openly in front of others - especially those that did the insulting, so comedy and sarcasm becomes a defense. You may not be able to take things seriously, like compliments, or giving advice but that doesn't mean that you don't care. Let's just hope everyone else sees that. If push comes to shove though you have no problem telling people how you really feel, you just might add a little joke at the end. You're the one who sorts things out. Say things that others want to, but are too afraid to say out loud in fear of hurting someone's feelings: messed up reservations, fight among your friends.

4. Confusing Conversations.

Giving compliments can be confusing because no one knows if you're being serious or not. Most of what you say is sarcastic so people who aren't used to you might think you're speaking a foreign language. If you're texting or messaging someone online things can get confusing because it is difficult to convey sarcasm through totally written conversations, but that is why the internet uses emojis. A sticky out tongue face fixes all confusing moments, also 'JK LOL'.

5. You are your favourite person.

You are never lonely because you are the best person to be around. You laugh at your own jokes and watching movies or shows by yourself is so much more entertaining because you have a running sarcastic commentary the whole way through that no one else can complain about. One day you'll meet someone whose wit will match your own and you will be a force to be reckoned with.

6. Independence.

You can count on yourself to mind yourself. Mostly because you hate working with other people that might not get you or worse who are boring or way too enthusiastic about everything. You rely on you. Plus you're not afraid to go out and try new things or make a fool out of yourself. You have the independence and confidence to be the coolest person that you know.

7. Attitude.

You're told you have a bad attitude by managers, parents, T.A.'s and professors. All because you sarcastically complained loudly about something. Really you have a great attitude, you defend the weak and stand up to the big bullies who aren't clever enough to take your sarcastic compliments, because you believe in outwitting people than using actual violence. They get confused by the feigned sensitivity and run away. They haven't a clue whats going on.

8. Intelligence.

'Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit' - said every dull person ever. Lowest form of wit, my ass. My father used to say that all the time when I was younger because I often used to talk back and make fun of his outdated ideas. That is something that linear thinking people say because they aren't clever enough to evoke sarcasm correctly, or they don't get it. See, sometimes if you use sarcasm too often people will take you seriously and think you're stupid. It's unfortunate, but that's what happens when you're surrounded by half-wits, just kidding. According to this article, sarcastic people are actually smarter. Take that haters.

9. You're hilarious.

You're the one at class parties bringing the humour. You love making people laugh and, hopefully, the people love you for it. As long as they don't take everything so seriously. Even when you're meant to try to take things seriously, you can't. You have a constant reel of sarcastic comments going around your mind when you're listening to someone give a speech, a lecture, or debating something. Sometimes those comments are said out loud by accident. You can't turn it off.

10. 'I'm kidding, maybe.'

Talking to people that don't get sarcasm is unbelievably frustrating. It's like sarcasm is a foreign language to them. They can never tell if you're being serious or not and while it can be fun to f*ck with them, it gets old. Especially when you start to feel genuinely sorry for them that they don't have any comic relief in their lives. But it dies give you a bit of an ego boost, you're proving to yourself that you are hilarious. Having to say just kidding at the end of every sentence because everyone else is so bloody emotional they take everything so personally and seriously. Like there might be some truth behind whatever comment you've said but learn to take a joke. Stupid people encourage you to use all your sarcastic talents. It's the only defense against a sea of ignorance and frustration. A defense mechanism probably, but better than sitting in the corner crying in frustration. We're tougher than  you'd think. We can take anything.

11. Your friends are awesome.

You have the best and wittiest friends you could ever have hoped for. People who don't 'get' your humour are always confused by your conversations that mostly consists of all of you insulting each other. True love knows how to take a jibe every now and again, it's how we express our feelings. At the end of the day we're all just here for a good time, no one has time for people getting upset. Real friends can take the quips and return back in kind. That's real friendship, nothing will break that.
