So one thing that all students share in common is being broke. We usually check our bank balances whilst holding our breaths and praying silently to god.

So here are five tips on how to save money as a broke college student :

1. Buy a child's bus ticket

So a Dublin bus five day rambler ticket is €8.20 for a child's ticket and 20.00 euro for a student? I think we can all see the healthy alternative and who has ever been on the bus when an inspector has got on? Oh yeah your friends cousins ex boyfriends uncle.. buy the ticket looking at the floor and hope the bus driver doesn't decide you are his victim to pick on..

2. Use and abuse your student card

Your student card should be your be your bestfriend while you have it and let your favourite new phrase become 'do you have a student discount?'

3. PREDRINK PREDRINK PREDRINK

Drinking before you go out is a sure fire way to save money why pay eight euro for a drink when you could get two for that price in your student bar or even cheaper if you drink at home..

Predrinking will also result in a few funny selfies on the bus into town.

4. Bring food from home

If your living away from home for college always make sure when your back home for the weekend basically steal all you can stocking up on food for when you go back. Raid the presses for biscuits, noodles and anything else you can find sure your mammy wouldn't want you to go hungry….

5. Make bestfriends with your taxi driver 

Sure you may be shattered and dying to go home to your bed but having the craic with your taxi driver sometimes can magically lessen the fare. Listen to them ramble about their kids, the recession, the youth of today or whatever it may be and join them on their rant.  Sure even put the radio on and sing a few tunes..

 Just don't forget the golden rule, do not get sick in his car.. open the door at least..
