The 7 Deadly Struggles Of A Daily Student Commuter

Whether you're a college student too poor for close by accommodation or you just live between 6 different houses (i.e, me) then you'll know the pains of public transport better than anyone. And "pain" doesn't even describe the suffering that you'll experience on a daily basis. Here are seven struggles you'll face if you're a daily commuter:

1) You're always either ridiculously early or a little bit late.

It's true; no matter how much you plan, you'll always show up at least 40 minutes early or 15 minutes late. It's a constant pain of trying to manipulate the public transport to suit you, and you will never, ever win. Sometimes you'll turn up and you won't even know which one it is. On the bright side, people expect this and are never surprised.

2) You lost something and there are 13 different places it could be.

Travel to your other halfs house a lot? Her parents house? Her gran's house? Your own gran's? Work? Your parents? Yep you've lost your phone charger and these are just a handful of the places it could be. Face it, you're screwed. The only solution to this is to have one in every house just in case. I'm not kidding when I say I own 7 toothbrushes...

3) Your backpack is your survival pack and you bring it everywhere.

You know you're definitely going to have back problems before you're 40, but you don't care because this is the equivalent of an apocalypse survival pack, and you'd never go anywhere without it. Who cares if someone gets injured every time you turn around, or you practically fall over with relief when it comes off your back? #ouch

4) You've stopped paying attention to what you eat.

Seriously, as long as it's cheap, as long as you can grab it on the go, then you really don't care what it looks like. Or smells like. "Diet" is a foreign word to you. No time for healthy food when you're racing around to your next destination, only to be late anyway.

5) You never stop complaining about the price of commuting.

There's no worse crime, as far as you're concerned, than raising bus fares. How dare they? It's bad enough that I have to PAY for the privilege of sitting on a smelly, dirty bus for an hour at 7 AM. *Goes on 4-hour long rant.*

6) You never know what date it is. Or day. Or time.

You're just walking and commuting, focusing on where you need to get and how you're going to get there. You can definitely say that the next bus is in 12.6 minutes, but if someone asked you what time it is? You'd be lost. You'd probably forget when Christmas is, if it didn't affect bus timetables so bad. Stupid Christmas ...

7) Your bed is your best friend.

You might have to spend a few nights away from it, but there's nothing like coming back to your own bed, backpack-free after a hard day of commuting everywhere. For a few blissful hours, you can slide between your sheets, try to reassemble your poor, bent spine, catch up on sleep, eat more junk and binge watch Netflix until the next morning. There's literally nothing better.
