The 9 Worst Things About Leaving College

Finishing college, earning your degree and looking proud in that slick black cap and graduation gown is one of the highlights of many people's life. It signals a new era in your life and you're filled with hope, happiness and excitement for the future. However, you quickly realise that it's not all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows ahead. Here are the worst things about leaving college.

9. Entering the "real world."

You feel like a "grown-up" for the first time in your life, and it feels awful. You think about all those days spent as a kid, wishing you were older so you could buy alcohol, get out of school and earn the respect of the adult population. You refused to believe your parents when they told you that school is the best part of your life, although for many people that is the case! You're in the real world now - rent, bills, a 9-5 job (if you're lucky) and a hell of a lot more responsibility. You never saw this one coming!

8. Having to actually save money.

For the first time in your life (discounting your annual summer holiday) you actually have to SAVE money. It seems easy, but it's not. You get paid a small wage, which is heavily cut down after you take out your money for drink, food and bills!

7. Realising you're not able to get a job in your field.

After all your hard work and many years in college, now you feel like you can finally get the job that you've always wanted. WRONG! The cruel body blow is that the majority of recent graduates don't walk in to their preferred job and have to spend a lot of time digging around.

6. Telling people you just graduated and they ask what college you want to attend!

There's nothing more demoralising than when you tell somebody that you just graduated and they assume you're talking about school. Nope, college!

5. You feel your youth slipping away for the first time!

You feel "old" for the first time in your life - it's the beginning of the end! Your 20s is the best stage of your life and you're determined to live it up before you reach the almighty 30!

4. "So what's your plan now?"

You'll have to answer this question hundreds of times and it will drive you insane!

3. Internships.

You work long hours for little money. Full-time unpaid internships are not uncommon anymore, and you'll bust your ass to break into the job you want.

2. Your parents expect you to be in a serious relationship.

It's no longer acceptable to be flouting around, slutting your way from person to person. Your parents start to put some pressure on you as to when you're going to settle down. Your mother wants a grandchild sometime soon! The worst statement you will ever wish to hear is: "You're not getting any younger you know."

1. No more student discount!

The horror, the horror! You're no longer a "student" and your student discount has expired. You keep your old card and risk covering the date with your index finger when you present it to the cashier at Topshop, River Island or even McDonald's.
