The Unwritten Rules Of Texting

Texting is a serious game, considering the fact that no one likes to talk to each other anymore and all we do is sit on our phones all day whatsapping and texting people there is little out there in the form of text advice or text etiquette, but don't worry here are the unwritten rules of texting.

1. Use the winky face with caution

It has a tendency to look a bit creepy rather than cheeky. Best when used in a jokey way to friends, e.g "Got a date with Ryan Gosling and a slice of chocolate fudge cake tonight ;)" Or when texts are getting flirty on both ends between you and someone else. Go wink crazy in that case.

2. Go easy on the ':P' face

This emoticon is like smiling for cool people because it somehow feels less enthusiastic than the smiley face, yet still friendly and jokey. It's a pretty strange emoticon if you think about, because, unless you're Miley Cyrys, you don't stick your tongue out at people in the real world.

3. Same with exclamation marks

Exclamation marks liven up text messages. Without them it feels like the tone is coming across all monotonous and serious. However, if you use too many you just look like you've had waaay too much caffeine and are jumping up and down yelling things. Ration out the use of emoticons and exclamation marks in equal measure, unless you're super SUPER excited about something: ":D:D:):P:D!!!"

4. Don't send kisses to everyone

Some people send one kiss at the end of texts to everyone, others send five kisses, and some don't send any. The general rule is to wait and see what the person you're texting does (though there's a good chance they might be doing the same thing). Also don't forget who's on the other side, leave out the kisses when you're texting your boss.

5. Do drive yourself crazy with text gaps

So, here's a big one. It tends to go that if someone texts you straight back, you text them straight back too. If they take longer to text back, so do you. If they usually text back straight away but for some reason leave it longer, you leave it even longer. However, if you want to cut the bullsh*t just text back whenever you can. Don't get yourself tangled up in text games.

6. Don't bombard people with texts

Unless you're purposefully trying to be annoying. In that case, go for it.

7. Save anger for a phone call

As good as it might feel to send passive aggressive texts or just full on rage messages, they can haunt you even after the fight is over. Much better to talk it out.

8. DON'T DRUNK TEXT

Just try your hardest not to.

9. Sext to your heart's content

According to wise women of Cosmo, getting in the mood is very important. One of their tips is: "Do something sexy like lick a lollipop, squirt whipped cream into your mouth or simply suck your finger."

Personally, I think a simple text might be easier...

But don't sext the wrong person

10. Just Remember... Sarcasm works better in person.
