Wanklemut @ The Limelight Belfast

It’s not often you will see such a life changing effect from a 7 long minute piece of music. However sometimes things in dance music things unfold fast, very fast. In autumn 2011 Jacob Dilßner aka Wankelmut was a young 24-year old student and part-time dj who had just relocated to his hometown Berlin to study philosophy and political science. Then one night he started playing around with one of his favourite songs in Ableton Live, cutting, filtering and adding a simple 4/4 groove. In just a few hours he had a rework which would change his life significantly “One Day’ a folk song from Asaf Avidan & The Mojos had received the Wankelmut treatment and was ready to be shown to the outside world. Back then Jacob was totally unaware of the impact his clever remix would have. What started as a quick bedroom edit became a monster, one of the biggest tracks of 2012 which eventually saw release on Four Music as an official remix and went on to dominate charts worldwide.

Since then, Wankelmut has made the break to bigger things with his quickly developing reputation as a producer taking him to shows all over Europe. There hasn’t been much time to relax either. His studies are on hold for now. The official video accompanying „One Day/Reckoning Song“ has already exceeded 120 million views and Jacob is working on various new projects following the massively successful release of My Head Is A Jungle and various Wankelmut remixes. His fine EP Wood & Wine also recently got a release on Get Physical Music a renowned underground label based in Germany. All in all it’s been an outstanding few years from a man who it seems to have struck it luckier than most.

If you want to catch Jacob in the flesh he visits The Limelight this week following a sellout show in Dublin’s Button Factory last Friday night. Tickets are still available for all you Belfast boppers who fancy taking in one of the infamous JACK shows this Friday.
