The War On Drugs, Not A Waste Of Time

1. Lost In The Dream is the third studio album from Philadelphia indie rockers, The War On Drugs and follows their critically acclaimed 2011 album, Slave Ambient, it's strange quirk is that it sounds like a melting pot of different artists from the late 80's up to the modern day

2. The first single from Lost On The Dream is a fantastic foot-stomper, 'Red Eyes', and brings to mind an Americana version of Wild Beasts, check it out

3. Lead singer Adam Granduciel and guitarist David Hartley combine beautifully on the albums third track, 'Suffering', which doesn't sound as miserable as the title suggests, it's a lo-fi track that sounds like a Paul McCartney feat. Soundgarden feat. Tom Petty track, intriguing!

4. In creating their unique sound, The War on Drugs tend to throw layers and layers of sounds at their songs before stripping them back down to the bare bones, and the results are amazing, and enjoyably confusing if that's possible, 80's synth-pop, 90's rock, 00's indie and a spoonful of folk & ambience thrown in has left our head spinning, in a good way

5. Aside from having a great sound, we're digging front man Adam Granduciel's style, let's face it, we're all getting a bit bored of beards at this stage, the time has come for all of us to grow our hair long and get the denims and doc boots out, he's got that Eddie Vedder thang going on fo sho, damn, those locks

6. Good news for Irish fans, and indeed, European fans, The War On Drugs are hitting the road for their European tour in May, with the final date in The Button Factory in Dublin on Thursday, 29th of May, and tickets only cost a score! (that's €20 for those of you from the islands)

7. The bands 2011 album, Slave Ambient contained the anthemic single, 'Come To The City' which has a very nostalgic 90's U2 feel to it, was a song three years in the making that was almost never recorded, and has now become a centrepiece to their live shows, here it is

8. Here's an, um, interesting interview with Adam Granduciel and Dave Hartley, clearly they've been doing their part in fighting the war on drugs

9. If you want to check out a bit more of new album, Lost In The Dream here's a nice sample mix from various tracks on Soundcloud

10. We'll be very surprised if the new War On Drugs album doesn't go on to be a summer favourite, and we're more than happy to give it the thumbs up with a rating of 4/5
