Why Bob Dylan Won't Be Able To Accept His Nobel Prize

Legendary musician Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature last month for 'Creating new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition'.
Since then he's seemingly had little more than apathy towards the prestigious prize. It famously took him nearly two weeks to acknowledge that he had won, which was condemned as 'arrogant' and 'impolite'.

Since then, he has said that he will accept the award and its eight million Swedish Crown prize fund, however, it looks like he won't be doing so in person. The Swedish Academy, the body that oversees the Nobel Prize, has released a statement saying that Dylan won't be attending the award ceremony in Stockholm on December 10th due to 'Pre-existing commitments.'

A laureate not attending their own award ceremony is unusual, but not unheard of. The one commitment Dylan must adhere to is a Nobel Lecture which he must make within six months of the award ceremony. The Academy added that Dylan,'Underscored, once again, that he feels very honored indeed, wishing that he could receive the prize in person.'
