Department Of Education Tells Colleges & Schools To 'Err On Side Of Caution' With Closures

With Storm Lorenzo set to hit Ireland tomorrow Met Éireann have issued several weather warnings for the country. A yellow weather warning for high winds has been issued nationwide, and six counties along the west cost have been givene orange weather warnings, as they look set to be the worst hit.

In light of this the Department of Education has said that any closure decisions will by made on an individual basis by colleges, schools and other educational institutions.

That said, they are advising educational areas along the west coast that are set to be the worst hit to 'err on the side  of caution' with regard to closures.

They said, "Any and all decisions about school closures will be informed by, as well as prevailing and predicted conditions, any damage that might have been caused to school buildings overnight or at any time during the storm, and whether such damage –where it exists – might present a risk to safety."

As of yet, no colleges or schools have announced closures for tomorrow, however students should monitor their college's social media pages for any updates.
