Enda Kenny's 10 Minute Phone Call With Donald Trump Last Night Hints That All Is Well

Taoiseach Enda Kenny had a 10 minute conversation with the President-Elect of the US  Donald Trump. During the conversation Kenny congratulated Trump on his victory and both men expressed their commitment to cooperation between Ireland and the US.

During the call Trump confirmed to Kenny that he will continue the long standing tradition of extending an invitation to the Taoiseach to attend the White House for St Patrick's day celebrations.

Kenny has in the past expressed dismay towards Trump's bid for the presidential office, referring to his comments as 'racist and dangerous'. He did an about turn after Trumps victory, releasing a warmly-worded statement where he praised Trump's running mate, Mike Pence, as a 'Proud Irish-American'

Kenny's statement is in stark contrast to German Chancellor, Angela Merkel's somewhat cooler and more measured response in which she stated that she would co-operate with America on its founding liberal principals rather rather than because of who the current head of state is.

A lot of people took to twitter to criticise Kenny's seeming flip-flop on his position on Trump.

Kenny's statement on vice-president elect, Mike Pence, are especially troubling seeing as Pence is a far right conservative pro-lifer you can read all about him here.
