The EU Are Giving Away Free Inter-Railing Tickets To Young Irish People

If you’re an 18-year-old born between 2nd of June 1999 and 1st of July 2000, you need to avail of this new EU scheme!

The EU programme, DiscoverEU is being set up for 18-year-olds all across Europe to promote interest in Europe for young people, and tourism. 150,000 youths will get the opportunity to travel across different countries on this new scheme that will get them around anywhere from Serbia to Germany.

It hopes to give young people a chance to see Europe before going into the real world. 140 Irish people will be given this European inter-railing ticket which will be valid for a minimum of 1 day to 30 consecutive days of travel from the 9th of July to the 30th of September.

The EU will also cover extra costs like flights for countries such as Ireland, Malta, and Cyprus who may need to fly from one country to another to begin their traveling. You will then be able to use the inter rail network from France to Estonia or Denmark to Italy.

Dublin MEP Brian Hayes hopes that if the scheme is successful that it will be available to all 18-year-olds for the next 7 years.

Applications will open on the 12th of June via the European Youth Portal. The applications will close on the 26th of June, and those who are accepted will be informed by the 27th of June.

Visit https://europa.eu/youth for more information and to apply. Good luck!
