A Massive Garda Speeding Clampdown Is Happening This Friday

An Garda Síochána will be monitoring the roads for an intensive national speed day known as "Slow Down" day. The operation will be for a 24-hour period from 7am this Friday, May 26, until 7am on Saturday, May 27. Reducing speed has been a key issue for An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority. If you want to show your support for the campaign go to the An Garda Síochána Facebook page.

The objective of "Slow Down” day is to reduce the number of collisions, injuries, and fatalities caused by speeding on Irish roads. The main aim of the campaign will be to get drivers to slow down by reminding them of the dangers of speeding, implementing speed limits and acting as a deterrent to driving at excessive and inappropriate speed.

The number of deaths and collisions on Irish roads has slightly decreased since this day last year. In comparison to 2016, 11 fewer people have been killed on Irish roads and there has have been less a reduction of 12 in the number of collisions.

Do you think "Slow Down" day will help reduce dangerous driving?
