Irish School Evacuated After Sink-Hole Opens Due To Mine Collapse

Drumgosatt National School in Co. Monaghan has been forced to close for the day after the opening of a large sink-hole due to the collapse of a gypsum mine.
The sink-hole, which occurred overnight and in the early hours of the morning, opened up on the land of a community centre in Carrickmacross, with the nearby school being evacuated as a precaution.

A section of a local road, the R179 between Kings Court and Carrickacross has been closed and diversions have been put in place, as confirmed by Gardaí.
It is understood that nobody has been injured due to the opening of the sink-hole, however Magheracloone Mitchells, a GAA club who play on the community centre's grounds have issued a statement saying that no one is to enter the grounds under any circumstances.
