Students Impacted As One Of Dublin's Busiest Stations To Close For 13 Weekends

Commuters should prepare to make alternative travel plans for various weekends over the next two years as Pearse Street Station will undergo works from the second half of 2018.

The new plans mean that the station will be closed 13 weekends in all - although it won't all be in the one block -  to allow for a €10m roof replacement project. This is sure to affect country students travelling home for the weekends.

These weekends will see southside dart and Rosslare services operating from Grand Canal Dock. while northside dart, Maynooth and Drogheda services operate to and from Connolly Station.

The first station closure is expected in August 2018.

According to The Irish Independent, Iarnród Éireann said the safety works on the station were "crucial" and "urgently required" as steel roof trusses supporting the roof were corroding. As a safety measure, protective mesh has been in place for the past number of years.

The work is expected to be completed in June 2020.
