The New Power Rangers Movie Will Feature The First Gay Superhero On The Big Screen

The Power Rangers were a prominent feature in most of our childhoods. Everyone wanted to be a specific colour! The new film allows an entirely new and old audience to see these ass kicking superheroes come back to life. The added bonus being that the Power Rangers will introduce the first gay superhero onto the big screen - exciting times!

Becky G, also a successful singer in the US, will play the yellow Power Ranger - my favourite Power Ranger! Yellow Ranger Trini will be coming to terms with her sexual orientation and in the film discusses having "girlfriend problems."

The director Dean Israelite, who spoke to the Hollywood Reporter,  says the moment is important."For Trini, really she's questioning a lot about who she is...She hasn't fully figured it out yet. I think what's great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, 'That's OK.' The movie is saying, 'That's OK,' and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe."The introduction of a gay superhero will be a welcome sight as the genre has been criticised in the past for its lack of diversity will television depictions trumping the big screen. The blue ranger will also be on the autistic spectrum - props to the Power Rangers reboot for ringing that bell of inclusivity!
