Street Fight Erupts In Donnybrook After Schools Rugby Match

Donnybrook: 'a scene of uproar and disorder; a heated argument' according to the dictionary. That was certainly the case in Dublin area on Monday evening.

Gardaí were called after a mass brawl erupted on the street outside well-known local pub Kiely's.

The events occurred following a Leinster Schools Senior Cup match between St. Michael's and Terenure. The game, which Michael's won 25-13, took place at the nearby Donnybrook Stadium.

John O'Brien, bar manager at Kiely's, told the Irish Independent that he and members of staff attempted to break up the skirmish.

It’s an absolute disgrace. It kicked off outside the pub.

We tried to break it up. I was standing in the middle of it and the owner and his two sons too, trying to calm it down.

It was fairly serious out there at one stage.

There was no respect. We called the guards and they arrived.

He added that as soon as sirens were heard, those involved scattered.
