The Tidiest Towns In Ireland Have Been Revealed

The results of one the Ireland's mostly hotly contested competitions have been announced, with Birdhill, Co Tipperary winning Ireland's Tidiest Town 2017. The Tipp village, which is situated near the Clare border, along the banks of the River Shannon, also scooped Ireland's Tidiest Village.

2017 saw the most entries ever for the competition, 870 towns and villages entering the various categories. Westport was awarded Ireland's Tidiest Large Town, while Clonakilty secured their slice of the pudding, winning Ireland's Tidiest Small Town.

The other category, Ireland's Tidiest Urban Centre, was won by Ennis in Co Clare. Up the Banner, as Anthony Daly would say.

Michael Ring, Minister for Regional Development, and general good news celebration hound, praised Birdhill for their big win:

This is a fantastic achievement for Birdhill; a really worthy winner. Three other Tipperary villages have won this award, but it is the first time for Birdhill.

Also, by the way, Rathbarry in Co Cork won Ireland's Best Kept Town, which is different to being the tidiest town for some reason unbeknownst to me.
