UCD's Abortion Referendum Results Bring Victory For The 'No' Vote

UCD students have decided to maintain the college's pro-choice mandate with a 64% vote of 'no', against switching to a neutral stance on the issue.

This was the second referendum UCD held to decide the student union's stance on abortion rights, and the second time the student body voted to adopt a pro-choice stance. A quarter of the student body came out to vote in the referendum - around 4,700 people.

This means that 15% of the student body turned out to vote pro-choice, not a fantastic turn out by any means and something the repeal campaign should take note of.

The most prominent opponents of adopting a neutral stance were the students of the arts department, 71% of whom opposed the adoption of the neutral stance on abortion.
