Gardaí Not Ruling Out Fellow Passenger In New Statement On Maynooth Attack

Gardaí have issued further information regarding the brutal assault of an 18-year-old college student on Sunday evening, with authorities not ruling out the chance that the attack could have been carried out by a fellow passenger on her bus as well as it being done by someone she may know

The student suffered serious injuries including a broken jaw and eye socket from the attack in question, and was immediately brought to Blanchardstown's Connolly Hospital.

According to RTÉ, the girl has been identified as Kym Owens from Castleblaney in Co Monaghan.  A statement released by Superintendent Gerry Wall states the attack happened between 8.15pm and 8.30pm as the college student was returning to her digs from her home in Monaghan.

The incident itself has been described as 'rare' for the Moyglare Abbey estate.

Superintendent Owens has asked anyone who may noticed suspicious activity in the area on Sunday night to get in touch via Leixlip Garda Station on 01-6667800 or the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111.
