The National Anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann (The Soldiers Song), was written by Peadar Kearney in 1907 and translated into Irish by Liam Ò Rinn. Kearney was a friend of Michael Collins and was a part of the Free State. He wrote several rebel songs during Irelands fight for Independence from the UK.
The song was not well known until it was sung at the GPO during the Easter Rising and of 1916 and in camps where the Republican Army was imprisoned.
