TV Show To Be Made About Tiger King Stars Joe Exotic And Carole Baskin

At the start of this lockdown period, Tiger King was at the fore of our collective consciousness.

If you had to explain Tiger King to somebody that's not familiar with the Netflix documentary, we really wouldn't know where to begin.

Ok, there's a magician, meth addict, country singer, gay polygamist, animal abuser, TV host, and presidential/gubernatorial candidate.

No, that's not the entire cast. That's just one person, Joe Exotic.

If you're not familiar with the life of Mr. Exotic - real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage - you're in for one hell of a ride.

The self-proclaimed tiger breeder ran a roadside zoo in Oklahoma and was quite well known for his mullet and flamboyant personality.

He also unsuccessfully ran for Oklahoma governor and President of the United States.

Ok, he didn't get into the White House, but he did get into the local papers in 2019 after he was convicted over a plot to kill his long-time critic and rival Carole Baskin, founder of the Big Cat Rescue Wildlife Sanctuary.

Earlier this year, a jury convicted him on two counts of murder-for-hire and 17 wildlife charges. For his crimes, he was sentenced to 22 years in prison and convicted of killing five tigers.

He was also charged with selling and trafficking tigers and other endangered species. Aside from this, he falsified government documents to hide his activities in violation of federal laws.

Tiger King only scratched the surface and Variety has reported that a new Kate McKinnon-led series about Carole Baskin and her rivalry with Joe Exotic has received a multi-platform series order.

The limited series is currently titled Joe Exotic and it's set to air in the US on NBC, Peacock, and USA Network.

In addition, Etan Frankel (Friday Night Lights, Shameless, Animal Kingdom) has also joined the project as writer and executive producer.

In terms of the plot, Variety report that the new show "will centre on Carole Baskin (McKinnon), a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe Exotic is breeding and using his big cats for profit.

"She sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. But Carole has a checkered past of her own and when the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose what he sees as her hypocrisy. The results prove dangerous."

We can't wait to see what's in store because if it's half as entertaining as Tiger King, we're in for one hell of a show.
