Here's All The Juicy Details About Eurovision 2017

It's that time of year again when the country stops: Eurovision 2017. Your mam yells at you to sit down and be quiet while each country's entry performs, then you debate who will win and make fun of their singing and costumes. So here's when Eurovision is airing in Ireland, plus all the other deets you need to know.

First thing's first: you need to know about Ireland's entrant, Brendan Murray. The 20-year-old from Tuam in Galway will be singing for the nation with his song 'Dying To Try'.

You might know Brendan from Hometown, Louis Walsh's sad attempt at creating another Westlife. All of them have huge fluffy hair, garner wistful stares into the distance in their music videos and most importantly, are covered in fake tan. But we're not here to talk about Hometown, we're here to talk about the greatest music event in all of Europe (not really though, Australia are taking part); Eurovision.

This year, the Eurovision is being held in Kiev, Ukraine, thanks to last year's entry by Jamala who sang 1944. It was actually one of the better entries in recent years as it was a decent song with an actual message. The song talks about the deportation of the Crimean Tatars, in the 1940s, by the Soviet Union lead by Joseph Stalin because of their collaboration with the Nazis – heavy I know.

This year's first semi-final will be airing in Ireland on RTÉ2, Tuesday, May 9th at 8 pm. The second semi-final will be on Thursday 11 May at 8 pm on RTÉ2. And drumroll please, the grand final will be on Saturday 13 May 2017, on RTÉ One at 8.00pm.

Do we have a chance of winning this year? I highly doubt it, it seems that we've been slightly out of touch with the whole competition in recent years. Sure, we got so desperate we entered Dustin the Turkey as a competitor. Although Murray has some set of pipes, (if you like that pre-pubescent boy band sound) it seems like we may fall short again this year.

Here's the song in all its glory, tell Mammy to light a candle, who knows maybe the Eurovision gods may be on our side this year?
