New Figure Shows Just How Many British People Don't Recognise Ireland On A Map

In the last 100 years, Ireland has become a Republican state, gave birth to Michael Dee Higgins, The Corrs and Barry's tea and became one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world. Let's not forget that we're actually really sound, which is why the world celebrates our country one day every year.

It came as a surprise then when insurance website GoCompare found some interesting statistics about people and geography. The insurance comparison website create a quiz -'How Well Do You Know Europe'- and tested out the UK and US persons knowledge of European geography.

The company asked over 1,000 people to complete the quiz that was based on 10 questions,  with the person having to identify the image of the country, with multiple choices given. Terrifyingly, nearly one in 10 people in the UK could not identify Ireland on a European map.

It looks like it's not just Ireland that our neighbours can't seem to get their hands around, a few other countries are practically invisible as far as the British are concerned. Only 38% of British people could identify Slovakia and Americans, with 39%, found it easier to locate the Eastern European country on the map.

Overall, the Brits beat the Yanks with an average correct score of 6.5 out of 10 compared to an average of 4.9 out of 10 from US participants.
