Gardaí Investigating Alleged Sexual Assault At A Gaeltacht

A Gardaí investigation is ongoing after the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl at an Irish college in the west of the country.

The incident happened on the school's grounds on Saturday, 21 July. The alleged incident involved a 15-year-old girl sexually assaulted by a 17-year-old male. Both were students of the Irish College in the Inverin area.

The assault was reported to Gardaí in Galway on the day the alleged offence happened. According to The Irish Independent, the victim was brought to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) in Galway on the day of the incident.

No arrests have been made but the investigation is ongoing and specialist officers are expected to interview the victim and possible witnesses.

A file is being prepared by Gardaí for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who will decide how they should proceed with regard to charges for the incident.

The college has remained operational after the complaint but a number of students have left the college since the incident.
