The Body Of Missing 21-Year-Old Meath Student Has Been Found

The body of the 21-year-old  student who went missing last week has been recovered from a canal in Vienna.

Ross Hanlon from Athboy, Co Meath, went missing a week ago, after getting separated from his friends in Vienna during a night out. The Dundalk IT student was on a city-break with two friends after completing his Christmas exams when he disappeared at 2am last Friday.

A campaign was set up to find Ross on social media and a television appeal was screened in the Austrian capital. Over 15,000 was raised by over 400 people to help Ross's family with the investigation. Search and rescue teams found his body in Danube canal at 5pm on Friday.

On discovery the news of Ross's death, DKIT Students' Union posted a tribute to the young Meath man on their Facebook page:

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Hanlon's brother Craig has spoken about giving Ross a big send-off and wanted to thank everyone who got involved in the search:

We want to thank everyone back home, the police in Vienna, the people of Vienna, the Irish community in Vienna and the ambassador in Vienna.We're all still here for Ross and we're going to bring him home and give him the send-off he deserves.He was incredibly loved by everyone as you can see by the support from all his friends, those who came over to help search, his family and his girlfriend. We all love him so much and we're glad that we have found him and we can bring him home.We all love you so much Ross and there's no need to be afraid anymore.

Ross celebrated his 21st birthday earlier this month and was a massive fan of UFC fights, seeing several fights in Las Vegas, and of UFC fighter Conor McGregor.
