Trinity College Students Are Losing It Over A Weird Bee-Naming Competition

Let the Beyonce puns begin. In one of the weirdest competitions to ever be held by a college, students at TCD have been asked to name the Queen bee, after installing a honey hive on campus.

The 'Name Our Queen Bee' competition was launched yesterday, and is running on Twitter and on Facebook. All the efforts of students in naming the queen is all to win, 'a jar of the first harvested honey and a copy of The Bee Book.' Although the competition is a bit bizarre, it's all in conjunction with Trinity’s Campus Pollinator Plan.

Student's have been quick to come up with names for the Queen, so we decided to round up some of our favourites so far;

As much as we may laugh at the competition, it's all for a great cause, as Trinity aim to restore urban sites that are an important part for many bee species in Dublin. According to The Irish Examiner, some of the cool things TCD will be doing for bees include; planting suitable plants for pollination, protecting bee-nesting sites and actually making 'bee-hotels' for solitary bees.

Well fair play lads, we're buzzing to hear the winner. (sorry)
