Finding your way post-college can be a tricky one. To give you an idea of what your employment life is like post-college life the Central Statistics Office (CSO) published a report on 36,470 graduates who left college between 2010 and 2014. The report detailed trends in graduate employment, re-enrollment in education and a graduates earnings over time.
According to the reports, findings unemployment rates for primary, secondary and higher education levels have dropped since 2011. In 2016 graduates from third level higher education had only a 3.3% chance of being unemployed and 8.8% of secondary level finishing students faced unemployment.
Within a year of graduation, median weekly earnings were equal for men and women at €420 per week. However, women earn €20 less than their male counterparts after 5 years at €635 per week. The field of study with the highest median weekly earnings for graduates from the 2010 class within five years of graduating was Information and Communication Technology, followed by Education and Health and Welfare.
The most popular field of study for both men and women was business, law, and administration -accounting for 26% of male graduates and 22.6% of female graduates, while Engineering, Manufacturing & Construction was the second most studied field for men. Health and Welfare was studied by 20.9% of female graduates, the second most popular field for women.
Surprisingly, the number of people aged between 15 and 24 emigrating has dropped. In 2011, approximately 34,500 people in this age group emigrated. By 2016 the number had fallen by 47% to 18,300.
