The Perfect Student Hang Out Will Open In Galway This Friday

Students of NUIG and GMIT are in for a treat as a one of a kind arthouse cinema is opening its doors on Friday.

Pálás on Merchants Road Lower has been in the works for over a decade. Lovers of independent and arthouse film will no longer have to travel to places like Dublin to experience many international, animation or documentary films. The Pálás will officially open to the public on Friday, 23 February.

The interior is set to be quirky and unique as Element Pictures, the management who own The Lighthouse Cinema, took over the project in 2016. The cinema has cost over nine million euro, 50% higher than the original estimate. The screens will be similar to their sister cinema The Lighthouse which is known for its multicolored screens and modern art deco interior:

The Pálás is expected to become the epicenter for the arts in Galway as it's set to host an eclectic mix of festivals, international films, special events, and documentaries. The spot will include a restaurant and bar so it sounds like the perfect night out or hang out spots for students wanting to treat themselves.

The cinema will be showing the big Oscar contenders I Tonya, The Shape Of Water and -the movie that may win Irish actress Saoirse Ronan her first Oscar - Lady Bird on Friday night so make sure to book your tickets now. Click here to keep an eye out for updates.
