Creeps Beware! Instagram Finally Announce Update To Help End 'Creeping'

Any self-described creeps take note, Instagram has some important news regarding a much-anticipated update to their services. They are set to follow in the aspirationally creep-busting footsteps of Snapchat and implement a feature that will notify users when someone has taken a screenshot of one of your stories.

A spokesperson from Instagram, while speaking to TechCrunch - a website presumably catering to enthusiasts of all things both 'tech' and 'crunch'-y - said that Instagram "are always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you."

The changes are apparently being tested to see their efficacy and how the users concerned interract with Instagram. Users who are currently being targeted by the test have a separate notifications tab within their story views so they can see who has taken a screenshot of a story.

If you are worried that you may be categorisable as a 'creep' here are some tell-tale signs:

  • Do you clandestinely take screenshots of people's Instagram stories?
  • Do you currently own and sport a thin moustache?
  • Do you, or have you ever owned a pair of leather trousers?
  • Do you think nothing of sitting beside a lone commuter on an otherwise empty bus or train?
  • Have yes to point 3 of this questionnaire and have since not disposed of said leather trousers?

If you answered yes to any of these then unfortunately you may broadly fall under, what at least some people, would happily call the 'creep-brella'; the umbrella term for all variants of creeps.

It is unclear when these changes will be rolled out to all Instagram users, as it is conditional upon how they effect usage of the app. Though we can only hope that it will be soon and that it marks another important step towards society's eradication, and perhaps rehabilitation, of the 'creep'.
