Investigation Underway After Alleged Rape Of Student On UCD Belfield Campus

Gardaí are investigating an alleged rape of a student that happened on Friday morning of last week.

The reported rape happened after the student was out on Thursday night and was coming home in the early hours of Friday morning. The Gardaí have undergone a full investigation and the student has given a statement to the Gardaí.

UCD have not commented on the alleged attack but have been made aware that a report has been made to the Gardaí.

A post on the UCD Student Union Facebook page mentioned a 'walk safe' service in which you can get, ' a member of UCD Security to escort you from one campus location to another'. There was no further statement from the Student Union in relation to the attack.

This comes at a time when the attack of Maynooth student Kym Owens, (18) has had much coverage in the media. Owens was left with a broken jaw and eye socket and remains in an induced coma as a result of the brutal attack.

According to The Irish Times, many UCD students have engaged in discussion on the matter this week, and the lack of information has added to the fear felt amongst female students.
