Maynooth Victim Kym Still In Induced Coma As Gardaí Fear She Won't Remember Attack

Over one week on, Maynooth student Kym Owens remains in an induced coma as Gardaí continue their search for a prime suspect in the horrendous attack she suffered at the entrance to her estate.

While authorities remain hopeful that she holds the key to identifying the perpetrator, they are quite fearful that she will, in fact, remember little of the traumatic experience. A senior source told Independent.ie:

It is a matter of deep concern to us that Kim may not remember exactly what happened on the night of the attack.

This is common enough in cases like this. She suffered a terrible ordeal.

Gardaí have been interviewing passengers who were on the bus that night and, although initially they suspected the attacker may have been on the same bus, reports are now suggesting that they are not as confident in this respect.

Meanwhile, a local group calling themselves the Maynooth Vigilante Committee have claimed that they may already know who the perpetrator is and have a 24/7 surveillance roster, with three vans in operation for the 'pick up and interrogation' of their suspect. Unsurprisingly, in the wake of these claims, Gardaí told the Irish Mirror:

First of all if anyone has any information they should relay that information to An Garda Siochana and this will be fully investigated.

In relation to the serious assault in Maynooth we are still appealing for witnesses to contact Leixlip Garda station.

It should also be noted that any criminal activity reported will be fully investigated.

In more positive news, concerned locals and friends have come together to raise money for Kym's care. Last week we reported that The Roost bar were donating their Thursday night cover charge to the cause and since then a gofundme page has also raised over €5,000.
