The Irish Quidditch World Cup Is Taking Place At A Dublin University
Ireland could have a chance at a World Cup victory after all...
Harry Potter stans will know that the wizarding worlds number one sport is Quidditch. Well, fans can rejoice as the Irish Quidditch World cup will be hosted by Trinity College in the new year. The Irish Quidditch cup will consist of teams from Belfast, Galway, and Dublin. The acrobatic event will take place on January 20th, 2018 and whichever county wins will compete for Ireland in the European Quidditch World Cup in Germany in April of next year - who needs the actual World Cup?
In a statement to the press the President of Quidditch Ireland Stefan Scheurer felt that the game had come a long way since its recent introduction to Ireland:
the recent success of our national team has proven on the international scene that we have a lot of talent here in Ireland...the tournament will serve as an example for Ireland as a spot for future sporting events.
The three teams that will compete at Trinity to represent Ireland at the World Cup will be Dublin's Draíochta Dragons, Northern Wyverns from Queen's University Belfast and the Galway Grindylow - an epic name.
Who brought the magical game to muggle world I hear you ask? The students of Middlebury College in the US, that's who. Perhaps one of the most inclusive of sports, the teams are gender mixed and only four members of the same gender can be on the pitch at the same time.
Sadly, Dublin's Draíochta Dragons have not been recognized by Dublin University Central Athletic Club (DUCAC) which means the team has been forced to train in public parks across Dublin.
