Lidl And Aldi Issue Recall On Houmous Porducts Due To Salmonella Fears

If you prefer to consume pulped chick-peas free from the worry that you may contract salmonella, then we have some bad news for you. Lidl and Aldi have announced that they are recalling batches of hummous due to fears that they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The specific hummous products that are to be recalled are as follows.

Houmous Recalls
Aldi:

  • The Deli brand Reduced Fat Classic Houmous Triple Pack; pack size: 180g (3 x 60g); UBD 03/11/19
  • The Deli brand Reduced Fat Houmous Selection Triple Pack; pack size: 180g (3 x 60g); UBD 02/11/19 and 03/11/19
  • The Deli brand Basil Houmous topped with Pesto & Parmesan; pack size 170g; UBD 04/11/19

Lidl:

  • Meadow Fresh brand Classic Houmous stacker; pack size 180g (3 x 60g); UBD 06/11/19

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued a tweet regarding the recall.

They are urging people who may have purchased any of these products to have been affected not to consume them. They have also outlined the typical symptoms associated with salmonella:

People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

This news brings to light several key issues. Firstly, that Aldi stock a type of houmous topped with pesto and parmesan, which sounds thrillingly delicious. Secondly, this whole endeavour has been an eye-opening experience as to how 'houmous' is actually spelled.
