Thousands Of Euro In Damages After Fire At Dublin School Last Night

A fire started in the grounds of Ladyswell National School in Mulhuddart last night has resulted in thousands of Euro worth of damage.

The blaze was reported last night, prompting Dublin Fire Brigade to send two units from Blanchardstown and Phibsborough. When they arrived they discovered that a stockpile of pallets, intended for a bonfire, had been set alight, causing damage to insulation and scaffolding around the site where a new part of the school is being built.

As reported in Independent.ie, one construction worker at the site said, "We haven't had any trouble at the site before, only this week when the mid-term started. The site is sealed and locked at night but they somehow got in and started the fire, there's a couple of thousand euro worth of damage.

Local councillor, Paul Donnelly, urged people to report any suspicious activity they observed in the build-up to Halloween, and to report any stockpiled bonfire material.

"It's important to report it so that it doesn't become a hazard. Report it to the council or Gardaí, and don't put stuff out for bonfires. I would also ask families to avoid illegal and dangerous bonfires and attend local events organised by the council instead. I'm just relieved that no damage was caused to the new school being built. We have waited years to have the new school started to replace the old prefabs.
