Tributes Pour In For UCC Student Who Passed Away From Meningitis

UCC student Gráinne O’Donnell, who passed away from meningitis last Thursday has been laid to rest.

The arts student's family asked to give donations instead of flowers to the Hope foundation, a charity in Calcutta where Gráinne volunteered during her summer holidays. Friends, family and UCC students, have been taking to social media with tributes to the late student.

The supermarket where she worked a part-time job at, left this heartfelt message on their Facebook page;

The post comments that 'Grainne was a very popular member of our staff and had a fantastic attitude towards work and customers alike.'

UCC students have been told that further outbreaks of meningitis are unlikely, but that students that feel unwell should seek medical help immediately. The HSE South public health department issued the following letter to all UCC students; 'it is important to be aware of the symptoms of this illness. These include headache, high temperature, vomiting, neck pain, dislike of bright lights, a red/purple rash which does not fade on pressure, and dizziness...'

A minute's silence was held for Gráinne before a UCC rugby match against Naas last Saturday.
