Find Out How Irish Universities Ranked In World University Rankings by Subject 2019

The QS World University rankings by subject for 2019 were released yesterday. Having previously released their overall university rankings for 2019, they have released their rankings for individual university departments. The ranking criteria are based on the following measures academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student, citations per faculty and international students.

So here's how Irish universities performed:

Trinity and UCD lead the pack with six departments listed in the top 50.

UCD:

University College Dublin (UCD) is ranked at number 193 in the global ranking. It has the highest number of subjects in the latest rankings, totalling 39. The highest-ranked subject was veterinary science in 26th place, followed by library and information management (38th), nursing (44th), English language and literature (49th), mineral and mining engineering (50th) and sports-related subjects (50th).

Trinity:

Trinity College Dublin, which has a long-standing reputation as Ireland's most prestigious university, is ranked at number 104 in the world. Trinity has the second highest number of subjects listed for an Irish university with a total of 37. However, it has the most highly ranked department for any Irish university, its department of classics and ancient history, came in 13th place in the world. Some other high ranking subjects form Trinty included English language and literature (28th), mineral and mining engineering (39th), nursing (41st), performing arts (42nd), as well as pharmacy and pharmacology (50th).

Dublin City University:

DCU ranked at number 422 overall in the list of global universities. The highest ranked subjects were politics and international studies (151-200) and communication & media studies (151-200). DCU maintains a number one ranking nationally for subjects in communications and media studies.

National University of Ireland Galway:

NUI Galway had three fewer rankings than previous years but ranked at 260 overall.

University College Cork:

UCC Cork is number 338 overall, this is a drop of 55 places on the previous year.

University Limerick:

And finally, UL is ranked between #511-520 globally with a major improvement in performance for education and training, ranking at #101- 150.
